Killerslut Yoshimi easily creates visions of bleak urban landscapes and hellish nightmares. Burial on crack, with a distorted sense of rhythm and lots of noise in the mix. Favorite track: 水の女.
Leiyun
Leiyun thumbnail
Leiyun one particle of dust entombs an epoch of time lost to history. it floats before the unaware and settles to the floor in a darkened room. concrete and color cannot staunch the flow of memory as it pools at our feet and cries out to the heavens. Favorite track: Refoulement.

patient_ot Very nice album of beat-driven, dark soundtrack-esque music. Don't let the "vaporwave" record label fool you, this is nothing like that stuff at all.

joyeboy Terrifying and beautiful in equal measures, this album really hits the mark, presenting a haunting perspective on Tokyo through modern composition and traditional sounds. This truly is dream (nightmare) music. Favorite track: I Had So Many Names.

Tokyo Restricted Area

The make-up on the face of the ancient city of Tokyo is plated by concrete, but beneath its antiquities and modernities, the city is sick.

Crimes and tragedies are not only created by human behaviour. The power of land is also the cause.

Memories of the land are older than when the human myth begins. Its spiritual assault on us is like an expulsion of a buried trauma.

The spiral power raged from

Ancient ages transform the linear timeline. Memories of the land try to demolish the concrete and further bring about the disintegration of human societies.

A souce who keeps watch on us from a slight crack within the concrete.

The places that contain these dangers are not mentioned on maps.

These are the restricted areas of Tokyo, and if found are not recommend to penetrate.

But our starved souls are sometimes attracted by these areas.

Areas where the protective spirit transcends human morality.

But could contain a trigger to release or destroy our soul.

The relationship with the land is also a hope to change our entropic society

If not an opposition of our community.

"Tokyo Restricted Area" presents an unknown story of these ominous memories of the land.

In 2015, Saiba ’98 brought to our attention Yoshimi Hishida, a Tokyo-born musician who has worked in the music industry in Japan for over two decades now and has a rich history of work in musical scoring for Japanese cinema. On Saiba’s strong recommendation, we checked Yoshimi out and immediately got in touch about him producing an album for us, as the work he had created in recent years was perfect for our vision for “dream music”. Luckily, Saiba had already been pushing Dream Catalogue towards Yoshimi and he was impressed with our approach to “dream music”, and while his own music stylistically comes from a darker and a somewhat different place than many Dream Catalogue artists, that same approach to delivering a dream-like narrative and heavy concept through music and presentation was right in line with Yoshimi's own musical vision.

After our discussions with Yoshimi, he set about working for months on ‘Tokyo Restricted Area’, a deeply inspired album which reflects a more ominous light upon his home city of Tokyo – a story that those who do not hail from there may be unaware of. It is based on a style he has pioneered called “Japanese Hell Trap”, and in a sense its concept is very hardvapour – reflecting upon the esoteric aspects of life that most do not want to explore. At times a very dark listen, the artist’s use of traditional Japanese musical sounds, cinematic effects and futuristic trap-style bass kicks and percussion blend together to create a wholly original atmosphere.

This album is about the city of Tokyo and the ghosts and ancient lore that exist beneath the cracks of the concrete metropolis, the ancient history that paved the way for modern civilisation. It is a very spiritual album, and this is reflected in the music with its sparse organic tones that make the listener reflect, its cyberpunk-like futurism brought out in the hard electronics.
